Is making my own jewelry expensive, a beginners guide.

Jewelry making can be a very rewarding, creative and inexpensive hobby if you want to make simple but pleasing articles for yourself, family and friends, as they obviously make wonderful heartfelt gifts. Many suppliers sell beads in bulk obviously not recognising the fact that you don’t require 1lb of the same bead, so shop around or share the beads with a friend who also makes her own jewelry and share the cost.

However as your experience, ambition and confidence grow you will find that the tools and equipment for each type of jewelry making and each type of jewelry making material increase in cost and complexity.

If you purchase the supplies and equipment over a period of time this will obviously be better for your pocket and bank balance. Many people make jewelry not only as a hobby but also to sell to friends, and at craft fairs and also on the Internet. Therefore the cost of your hobby or home-based business is offset by the money received in payment for your designs.

A word of warning however - it does happen that the cost in materials, time, effort and magic that you bring to your jewelry making may not be covered in what you can actually sell the item for. So caution is needed before spending large amount of your hard earned money. Don’t rush out and buy it all up front as this obviously makes it expensive. Take your time, do your research, shop around for the best value materials and supplies but above all enjoy it.
